2005 F450 535 high capacity trailer tow

Bought a new grand design 5'r so need to get a bigger truck. I want to stick with a 6.0. Found a 2005 f450 lariat (Same year as my current beloved 350 srw) 4x4 clean that I can pay cash for. But my research has found it's not rated to tow my 5'r either unless it has the heavy tow package. My ford dealer wouldn't pull an oasis and the window sticker is lost. If I shoot a vin out can someone tell me if it has the package. 5'r is 20k gvwr. I don't weigh that much but I want a truck with the same capacity Just in case. I'm around 18k and current truck pulled it ok but it's overloaded therefore illegal and I need drw. Thanks.

If you can swing it, I would just buy a new F450, most dealers are at 0%/72 months.

To find that configuration you'll probably only find ex fleet vehicles

900+ a month aside from insurance, assuming you can find a bank that will fiance what is classified as a commercial vehicle and you can find an insurance company that will insure for the same reason.

Im waiting for the RV loan terms before I buy my new f-450 or higher.

I was just spitballing based on the market here, used trucks here are either way overpriced or rundown fleet vehicles.

I've seen some 15 450 and 550's sitting at my local dealer in the weeds, but they are just bare cab/chassis models.

Yeah. If i go new I'll just go with a 350/ 3500 Chevy or dodge drw. They're all "legally" capable. My buddies 2013 6.7 is very impressive just not enough truck. It's crazy in the mid 2000's how did anyone legally pull 20k without otr semi rig? All the way up to f550 only a few configurations are stamped to pull that much. Nuts. Now the f350 drw and the 3500 ram have crazy numbers

This is getting interesting. not sure what the base f-450 consist of, but below is one of the spec's you can get from internet land.

Weights and Capacities
  • Curb weight: 8,233 lbs.
  • Gross vehicle weight: 14,500 lbs.
  • Payload: 6,180 lbs.
  • Towing Capacity: 16,000 lbs
I know of folks pulling car transport trailers with 2010 f-450's that can haul 5 cars and they run their operaion by the book.....not sure what their "package" is and Im not sure what I have....aside from the 4.30 rear

not sure if the 16K rating is for the class 5 hitch and would it be different if ford shipped these with any of the truck bed hitches.
