Low oil in HPOP could cause funny idle for a bit till it get pumped in.. I have heard it a good idea to remove all the oil in HPOP and refill.

A guy in atlanta that works on a LOT of Powerstrokes put out that info. Take it how you want.. I did a test and a couple hundred miles after the oil was changed i pulled some from HPOP tank and I can see a difference in color.. crankcase oil nice and honey colored,, oil in HPOP tank quite a bit darker.

What kind of oil do you use that is honey colored any length of time after the truck has been running? Mine is black as soon as you turn the truck over

Firefighter,
I normally use the Rotella T6 and it would turn black in a couple of thousand miles. Recently I used the Delo 400LE and it would stay honey colored to my next oil change. However, when I drained the oil the catch pan was quite black.
Oh well,

that might be your opinion and you are welcome to it.. but when someone works on powerstroke diesels especially the 7.3 and 6.0L for a living I tend to put a bit more belief in their words vs someone else.

have a good one.
