1999 F-250 7.3 Diesel fuel issue

I have a 1999 F-250 that starts but dies out. If I hold the accelerator down steady at half throttle it will go to the RPM it wants to then die out. This happens even when I "floor" it. Sometimes it idles okay and sometimes it does not.

Here is what I have done so far. (Besides cooking two starters)

- Removed fuel tank. Emptied all old fuel and pieces of junk
- Inspected/rebuilt fuel sending unit/pickup. *Note* The one that was in there had shattered at the bottom
- Added fresh diesel
- Replaced fuel filter
- with switch on, observed fuel fill up the well where fuel filter drops in
- Inspected blower which is working
- Confirmed that fuel pump is working
- Replaced glow plug relay

I am not a mechanic by trade so some of the actual terms may differ from the experts. I apologize for that. I hope my descriptors will suffice

What should I check next please?

Do you have a check engine light on? What blower did you check? Do you mean the turbocharger?

7.3 issue

No check engine light. No stored codes. I used a higher quality OBD analyzer and it recognized it as a Ford and even gave me an accurate fuel level reading so i know it was reading the system. Yes, I meant the turbo. Sorry

When you had the fuel tank out, did you disassemble the plastic mixing chamber and clean the screens out?

Yes. I made sure those were clean.

I also found a used one on e-bay and tried that one too. Both display the same symptoms. The ebay one had a faulty float so the fuel gauge didn't work with that one installed but the rest of the it did exactly the same thing

I am confident that the system from fuel tank to fuel filter is good. Someone recommended bleed the injectors. Another says replace injector pressure sensor

There's really no such thing as bleeding the injectors on these engines. You can try unplugging the wiring connector from the ICP sensor and starting it. If it runs well with the sensor unplugged, the sensor is faulty. It's the sensor toward the front of the left head, on the inboard side near the top. Kind of behind the alternator. You can drive it with the sensor unplugged without hurting anything, if you need to.

Thank you! I will try this before spending another $100!

If that does not work, what should I check next?

I'd start with checking and watching the fuel pressure with a gauge.
Just cause the fuel pump is coming on and filling the bowl doesn't mean that it's good.

Well, it's kind of hard to say without any live data from the truck. Do you have a scan tool that will read live data over the OBD port?

I mean can it monitor, and preferably log, things like ICP, IPR duty cycle, injector pulse width, etc.

Thank you all for your suggestions!

You aint gonna believe this! I was googling around and one site mentioned checking the high pressure oil pump. I figured what the hell, I hadn't changed oil in 4 years so I will check it out. I sucked some of the oil out of there and it was black but no chunks. I decided to change the oil and oil filter and to my shock, only about 4 quarts came out...including what was in the old filter! I put fresh oil into the HPOP and also another 14 quarts in the engine and it started right up...and never died! We had been tracing the fuel system all along because of the displayed symptoms and it is likely that it was just out of oil. She runs like a beast again and is back to being bullet proof! I tried racing an Audi on the freeway. I lost but I got her up to some nice speeds and RPM!

The only other thing I did was change the seat covers to smiley faces. I am pretty sure it was the oil though...YEEHAW!
