Tire size on F250 2WD SC.

75 F250 - SC, 2WD.

I am looking at tire size options for my truck and was hoping to get some suggestions on sizes as well as some pictures showing the tire size on some 73-77 2WD F series.

Current tire size is 245/75/16 on what I think are 16x6.5 wheels with a 4.25" backspace. I have some 16x7 (8" between rim edges) steel rims with a 3.25" backspace that I will be painting black and would like to run a 275/65/16.

275/70/16 is .7" taller (30.5" vs 31.2") and 1.2" wider (9.6" vs 10.8") than current size.

275/65/16 is -0.4" shorter (30.5" vs 30.1" and 1.2" wider (9.6"vs 10.8") than current size.

Would the 275/65/16 be a nice fit (or would it fit at all) in the wheel well since the tire is wider, the backspace is an inch less and the height is slightly shorter?

Thanks.

I don't run that particular truck so consider this a bump.

These trucks seem to like roughly zero offset. In an 8" wheel, that would be roughly 4.25" backspace. 275 is really pushing it on size for the front and probably need more backspace.

Tire selection is a matter of preference I know. That said, the 245 width works very well and with an 8 or more common 10 ply tire can handle way more weight than the rest of the truck. I just switched my '78 250 4wd from 9.50x16.5 to 245/75/16 which is about the same overall size. I picked 7" wheels as "best fit" for that size tire and roughly zero offset. If you do go with 16's you have to watch for clearance if running twin piston calipers. Mine fit (steel US wheels) but not all do.

Good luck!

My sig pic does not show the change in wheels but I have changed the front wheels to 16x7's from a 90's van (factory gray painted Wimbledon White) with 265/70R16 Load Range C. No rubbing and the wear seems to be even across the tread with 44psi. After I get some other things taken care of on the truck, I will match everything up front and back with same size E range tires
