coincidence or not???

had Ford do the 140 K service....

afterward-
defrost came on intermittedly, 4 wheel drive switch on dash stopped putting truck into 4 x 4
ABS light would light up in reverse,
back up alarm wouldn't stay on...

I believe three or four coincidences is TOO many.

any thoughts?

Ford has truck today,
Tech found a broken vaacum connecter, and brake sensor in front left is bad, one of the back-up sensors is cracked (bad)

charges will be in excess of $600 for sensors, connenctor, and labor

oil change, and filters....

they took off all four tires and rotated, as well as measured rotors.

just talked to the "Maintence Manager" and they are paying for the vaccuum hose connector and labor assciatated with it..

so, My bill wiill be 1 back-up sensor, and 1 wheel sensor plus 3 hours labor.

I asked for the old parts back- not sure if will see anything..

maybe backup sensor is cracked???

wheel sensor- damaged when they measured rotors???

if so ... I think they should compromise on hte bill. since issue started with their service.

I'm guessing it's Not a coincidence. That's one of the reasons I do as much of my own work as possible. Too bad this has become the accepted norm. Integrity is getting hard to find. Add to that the billed labor rate and it makes it even worse. You know if they broke it but proving it will be a different matter. Good luck!

If the vac connector is anywhere other than the knuckle, it's probably just bad luck. They're plastic, and things break. Brake sensor could possibility get smacked during a tire rotation, but again, not the most unheard of failure. Back up sensor, water intrusion plus winter temps times cold plastic, again those things can happen.

I guess I'm having a hard time assigning blame because every one of those things happens normally, compounded by heavy winters and serious cold, it might have just been your time.

Paying book time sucks, but it's better to pay book and have it fixed than deal with paying hourly for someone to pick their nose and take guesses.

when Ford called with amount of $$'s I owed..

I told him "that seemed odd having all go out at once.."

his boss called me back at 1130 (Alaska time) {10 minutes ago}-

They are now splitting labor- I pay for both sensors- they pay for the "wheel vacuum connector".

and trucks back up and running- hopfully.. I can't pick her up till after 6 pm due to work

Not a bad compremise-
and nobody accepting fault....

things happen; whether all at once, or over time.

Shop rate does suck, doesn't it? In a resuraunt the wait staff can make as little as $2.13 an hour while the house marks everything up three times to cover the rent, the utilities, and kitchen staff. The dealer pays their tech $xx.xx per flag hour on a repair, then has to mark them up to cover all the shop costs, plus training and support personnel, and maybe even turn a profit on something other than used cars for once. It probably doesn't make you feel better that the kid doing your repair might very well be making $11/hr as a helper while being supervised by a tech, but odds are it was done right and the diagnosis was correct the first time.

with how quickly they offered to pay part...

I'd say odds better that they at least broke the vacuum line..

sensors- I don't know, and probably no way to tell.

but, brought my cost down to just over $400 so sure was nice of them to man up to some damage/costs.

vaccuum connector that was broke and wheel sensor that was damaged were both on same hub....

backup sensor they had not yet fully installed it yet when I got there at 630 pm. they called in morning saying it was ready for pick-up!

what was hanging in the hole looked like an old sensor (mine???)
supervisor drove it around to shop and 45 minutes later (after their closing) brought it back..
sensor is now nice and clean and shiny black.. and in the bumper..(hummm)

used backup sensor he gave me before I seen the "replacement" was in two pieces and looks nasty...

I don't know if I ought to persue this further with the dealership or just move on to another shop for scheduled maintence... ??

Unhappy wiht dealer service,
Chris
