4r100 shifting issue after cooler leak

I had a minor front accident in my EX last week. Seemed fine to drive, AC worked radiator was oK. Shifted fine. Bumper was all jacked up. I took off the bumper and ordered a new one. In the meantime an employee of mine drove the EX on a short errand. Evidently there was a nick in the front tranny cooler hose that burst on the interstate. He put a few quarts in it and limped back to the farm where we fixed the leaking hose and refilled the tranny. As it is now, reverse works fine, but when shifted to drive it doesnt shift into 1st and could possibly be stuck in overdrive. If I turn off the overdrive button on the shifter, all gears work as they should except of course OD. if I'm at highway speed in 3rd gear, I can turn overdrive back on and it will shift into overdrive. If I stop, I have the turn off the overdrive button to use 1st 2nd and 3rd. Anybody have any ideas?

The overdrive one way clutch has probably failed. It holds in every gear except overdrive. When the OD OFF button is pushed the coast clutch applies and takes the place of the one way clutch. The trans has to come out and be torn down to fix this.

Thanks Mark. I figured it was something like that. I was hoping it would be something easy. I'll probably try to find a used one local to get it back in service. Not looking forward to it. I'm still worn out from putting a trans. In my sons c5 vette last weekend. The vette was complicated, im afraid this one is just gonna be heavy.

The transmission weighs about 270 pounds.

I'm assuming that's 270 lbs. plus the transfer case. I have a cheap HArbor freight 800 lb trans. Jack that I bought to do my son's vette and do a clutch on one of my Landcruisers. Not sure it's really good for 800 lbs but I'm thinking the 4r100 and transfer case will be under 500. The corvette trans. With torque tube and complete rear suspension was probably less than 270. I was shocked at how light it was. I have to re-do the vette install because of a bad bearing in the torque tube. Should have rebuilt the tube it while it was out. I'd like to say that I won't make that mistake again but I never seem to learn.
