My son has a '93 4x4 with auto tranny. It has the overdrive button on the gearshift handle. It will not move when you start up unless the O.D. is turned off. At high speeds OD will work fine unless it needs to shift out. WHen this happens it seems to go into neutral untill the button is pushed again. I think its an electrical problem but I know nothing about this particular tranny. HELP! any advice is appreciated.

For anyone to try to help, they need to know:
What model truck?
What transmission?
If you don't know what trans, look on the spec sticker on the doorframe or wherever, and post what code is listed under the trans or "TR" designation.

I'm a little confused
93 doesn't have an OD button. It does have a D and OD shift position. If it doesn't go forward in OD but does in D then the overdrive one way clutch has failed. In D the overdrive clutch takes the power on the overdrive one way clutch so it will move forward. At high speed, it would be possible to switch to OD with a little funkieness. The above clutches are not the ones that give you overdrive. This is not an electrical problem because the only two solenoids are the TCC and the 3-4 shift in this A4LD. Enjoy it like it is or rebuild it. No quick fix.

maybe not a '93
It may not be a '93 may be a '94, but it does have the button on the gear shift handle. Could the other model be an electrical problem or other situation different than the '93?
