How can i make my 7.3l idi faster?

Hey guys just curious to know of some not super expensive things I can do to my 93 F-250 7.3 idi 5 speed turbo. I know I need injectors and it has 3.55 gears on an open diff and I do plan to do new injectors and put 4.10s and a posi in it, but other than a banks sidewinder kit what can I do for some more power?

Go twin turbo. Tune the trans for racing. Nitrous? All about what you'll spend. Cams? I don't own diesel but I hear this is how you get it.

I would think bigger gears will slow a diesel down. Waste gate tuning for more boost would do some good just as long as your gaskets aren't worn out

Turn up the pump, crank down the wastegate.

no............................no they don't do that.

first things i would do with a factory turbo '93:
idi tune up (injectors/ip/engine timing) replace the crushed downpipe (requires smashing in the cab seam) and installing the banks dp made for the factory turbo and ditch the oem muffler for a BTM (big truck muffler.)
that'll wake her up a touch (or a crap load depending on how long it's been run on worn parts) for under a grand.

the downpipe from banks can be bought on summit racings website and I think that the part number is 52103. I have ran a straight pipe from the downpipe back instead of a muffler for awhile and I do not think that it is that noisy. But that is up to the owner.

Also, keep the 3.55 gears; going to 4.10s makes for hard highway cruising. If you've got a manual transmission, you will be compensating for the gears anyway(using a lower gear longer), or if you have an E4OD, as long as it came stock with the 3.55s, the shift points should be right for that.

As far as waking it up... just what others have told you: A new IP, new injectors and a good timing job is priceless. Then, add some head studs and increase the air(boost) you have. Add more fuel to compensate. Add an intercooler.
It really depends on how much you intend to spend as to how much you will get out of it. 250HP is totally reasonable for a decent tuneup job and fixing the downpipe; that's what Banks says that their kit can do... and the stock turbo itself isn't that much different.
Beyond that, you're talking some money, one way or another.

Cheapest way to get a faster truck is to buy a different truck.

These are not the cheapest trucks to modify.

The title of this thread is really deceptive. What does the OP want? Speed or Power?

alrighty that all sounds good. and I want more torque off the line, my truck is a dog it takes the whole petal to mover off the line and I do a lot of stop and go traffic that's why I wanted to put 4.10s in it so itd move

the tuneup should cure that, provided the engine isn't all wore out will a million miles and half it's compression.

Well, if it starts cold without ether, it's got decent compression.
I'm guessing you've just got a shot IP, just like most of the 'needs more power' people.
When the IP gets worn, all sorts of funky things can happen, and not all of them include 'not starting' or utter failure.
