5.0 Harmonic Balancer Marks

Hi all!

I am working on a '91 F-150 with a 5.0, factory stock. I plan to pull the distributor. While looking at the Harmonic Balancer, I see one deep, square cut mark in the outer ring.

When I line it up with the mark on the timing cover:
Is that mark TDC for #1 piston?
Should I expect to see the rotor advanced by a tooth?

The owner says it was running at idle and just died. She has already replaced the fuel pump and filter, and the starter soloniod (don't know why). My most likely suspect is the ignition module attached to the distributor. While I am there, I want to verify that the timing chain did not jump.

Thanks in advance, Mike
