Need help finding headers 7.5L

I have a 1991 f250 4x4 with the 7.5L 460. I'm looking at getting headers but they need to be smog legal in the state of California. Can someone help? Thanks.

Banks has a nice set a little pricey but have the thickest header to head flange.

I have the Banks powerpack, and you can't beat the ease of a bolt on kit. I believe L&L and Thorley make a smog set, but not sure if they can be found for a price that beat the ease of install of the banks set made specifically for the F-series.

Are the gains good enough for the cost?

I know this thread is kinda old, but Jeff's Bronco Graveyard now carries Mad Dog headers for our trucks and all itmes on their site are 10% off through 23Dec. I'm looking at Mad dog's and Banks.

sorry I never replied to this before, I don't know why I didn't see it.

It depends on the application, on a stock motor I would say no, because you can probably get nearly the same gains with any other tri-y headers and a good flowing muffler.

The biggest benefit is still that it bolts right on and you don't have to worry about anything getting in the way. Joe schmuckerelli at jiffy lube could do the job in just a few hours.

As for the mad dog headers, I have never heard of them. I'll dig into them and see how they compare.

I was planning to install headers on my '96 F250 4X4 7.5L. Been looking at Banks and Doug Thorley long tube. My truck is all stock and has a C6 trans with 4.10's and OBD 1 control. I thought headers was the "must do" mod on the 7.5's. So before I spend $750-$1000 on headers are there other mods I should be looking at.

It always depends on your goal. There are a few more cost efficient mods that will get you minor gains. A "six-litre" tune up can give you a good start. Headers only give you big gains if your heads are able to flow more air. I was told by one of my local builders that the stock manifold can flow a lot more air than the stock heads can flow. To what extent I am not sure. I rebuilt my 460 with higher compression in mind, and had my F3TE's opened up a little bit, to try to take advantage of the headers. My MAF swap is still ongoing, but I am hopeful to have the project done soon to realize the full potential.

I guess my truck is more of a tool than of a toy. When I fire it up it is usually to haul, tow or plow snow. Although I did take to the dirt drags this past summer did fairly well and had a ball.

Truck only has 61k on it so I have no plans for major teardown anytime soon. So I will be running stock cam heads and fuel injection. I'm considering the following

"six-litre" tune up (thanks for the info)
headers
upgrade to MAF

Unless these are a waste of time and money on a stock motor

I did just add an Eaton Truetrac to the rearend, mainly for towing.

I guess I'm like most of the guys here I'm just trying to get as much power as I can, within reason.

Thanks

Todd

How did you know how much to take off the heads?

I didn't, but my builder did. Not the heads, but the block. I leave that sort of thing to somebody in the know, and I gladly pay them for their expertise, so I don't mess things up myself. I'm guessing he took off about .040".
