Fuel Filter Filler

What do you fill your new fuel filters with when changing them?

I have read AFT, Diesel Kleen and Diesel. My filter needs changing and I am looking for input. Also we are going on vacation and the truck will be sitting for a week so it could have an extended clean cycle. The truck is new to me and I am not sure how well it was maintained.

I just filled mine with regular diesel. I've also heard you can put it on without diesel or anything else in it but it will take awhile cranking to get the motor to turn over.

The FSM specifically instructs NOT to put fuel in the filter, because that consititues unfiltered fuel going into your engine. I suppose you could prime it with ATF or Diesel 911 or something from a clean sealed bottle like that.

i ALWAYS fill the filter before putting it on. if i have diesel kleen i use it, otherwise it is regular diesel fuel.
then fire the engine up and shut it off after 30 seconds and let it sit over night.

trying to start on a dry filter is very hard on the batteries and starter.
i have seen people kill their batteries and smoke starters trying to start an engine on an empty filter.

I use atf. We used it at the tractor shop also. Had an issue with my ip a little while back. From advice from here, I used atf to clean the fuel system.

I use Howes, diesel kleen, ATF whatevers handy. Then try to let it sit in the pump and injectors over night /weekend. Makes a big difference on my old clapped out pump.

Thanks for the input. I have some ATF on hand and am going on vacation for 5 days. I will change the filter and filler up with ATF. I am change my mind and pick some Diesel Kleen, there is not a strong consensus about either one.

I personally just use regular diesel from a clean jerry can.

My last job was in a heavy duty truck shop, same thing, regular diesel.
