Having trouble installing transfer case motor

My 4WD hasn't been working for the past 8 months or so. The 4x4 light will come on when I turn the truck on but when I try to engage 4wd nothing happens. I told Brian at BTS about the 4wd not working when I went to Arkansas a couple months ago and he said it was probably an issue with the transfer case shift motor. He hooked up another shift motor while I was there and sure enough, the 4wd worked. So I ordered the shift motor last week and got under the truck a couple hours ago to install it and ran into a problem. I removed the old motor, cleaned the mounting surface, and went to turn the shaft with a crescent wrench to put it in the "4wd high" setting and it will not move into position. It will move into 2wd and 4x4 low but not high. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Did you try chalking the tires, dropping the drive shaft, putting the transmission in neutral and rolling the transfer output shaft a little to see if 4hi will engage ?
