2003 F250-Good Aftermarket Radios?

I have a 2003 F250 6.0 XL model. It's all basics inside with no frills- it was used as a Navy firefighting truck. It has a stock CD/Cassete radio and I would like to put in a aftermarket radio in a few weeks. The radio seems to have a lot of static at times and occasionally will drop out a speaker. I'm guessing that my speakers are bad and my radio but I'm not sure. I will also be replacing speakers soon. I like the large opening for the radio but it really narrows my selection because I don't want a slim radio that only takes up half the space. What aftermarket radios do ya'll have in your trucks?

Just my biased opinion but I PREFER OEM radios over aftermarket ones. I'm not critical on sound but to me OEM does sound better. My critical point against aftermarket ones are the ergonomics, all those tiny confusing buttons.

When you do go half height radio there are many installation kits that fill in that gap, usually with an open storage bin (convenient).

I love my Pioneer single din unit, easy to use, less buttons than the stock radio as well. Stock speakers sound way better than with the OEM head unit, and even better now that i have upgraded the door speakers to Pioneers.

We put an alpine single din in my wifes 2003, USB, bluetooth, am/fm/cd. She streams her phone to it from several apps and runs her phone through it.

I also have an Alpine and love it.
I have used Alpine in my trucks for years and never had a problem.
They just work and do not have a lot of junk on them that you do not need.

I have a Pioneer DVD1500 touchscreen radio. Priced great at $199 from crutchfield and can do iPods and have a rear camera hooked up to. Very nice radio for the money. I have always had good luck with Pioneers.

My truck had a JVC in it when I bought it. Still works fine, and it is polite too- gives the proper greeting when you turn it on or off. My issue with factory radios (for my era of truck anyway) is the lack of USB (or at the very least, aux in). I don't much listen to the radio anymore because of how overboard the stations are with the quantity of commercials. If I had my way, I'd just assume replace the radio with a USB port, a simple display and a volume ****...

I put a Pioneer avh-x3500bhs with rear view camera, bluetooth and dvd player. Best decision I ever made. Go to crutchfield.com and they will only list radios that will fit in your truck.

The factory stereo in my '99 F250 SD is basically 'toast'.

I have an Alpine unit that I had in another vehicle, several years ago, that's going into this old truck.

I ordered a mounting kit that goes from that HUGE-faced factory unit, to the little Alpine.
I also got a harness that just plugs into the factory harness and a harness to plug into the M-BUS connector on the Alpine unit, so that we can use iPod(s) and/or iPhone(s).

It has a storage tray under the stereo, where my son will put his iPod and/or iPhone.

Now, we just have to decide what speakers will replace the old OEM speakers.

I am looking to do the same, found a great deal on a factory unit take out w CD but no aux in for my mp3, which is all I really care about, I think I may go with a Kenwood ddx-371 I can get one for 250 has a dvd player and mp3 hook up jack. Anyone had one of these units? DVD seems much in a dump truck, but for 250 I can watch dvds if I am stuck somewhere???

I have a Pioneer single din in my truck. It's pretty user friendly and it has an iPod cable too (plays the tunes and charges).... and the remote is kinda neat

I had a Pioneer AVH-P4300DVD in the old truck. I really liked that set up. I had about $400 into the entire radio/rear monitor set up. Worked great and the kids loved it for our long trips.
