can anyone tell me if these transmissions normally shift hard? Mine does and is it something to worry about?? If so can I do anything to fix it?? what might be wrong?

Sometimes they do. Does yours do it all the time? All the shifts? Does the OD OFF light work when you press the button on the end of the shift handle? Does it flash sometimes?

ok here goes. I did just buy this pickup. The OD works, never flashes. the tranns fluid was low when I got it so i added some along with a half a quart of lucas stop slip/hard shifting fluid. the color of the tranny fluid was good. after I added fluid it shifted a alot better. It has 208000 miles on it. I would say it shifts more on the firm side but could be on the fence on that one. and yes its all the time on most of the shifts but mostly 2nd 3rd and 4th. its a crew cab short box with 33x12.5x16.5 tires. I hate tham and plan to get regular 16" rims. everything else is great. I did have a 92 IDI and that tranny did the same thing. I sold it to my brother and he said it was some minor thing on the tranny he fixed, i cant remember what it was but it still shifted "firm". Is this normal for these trannys??

A shift kit increases fluid pressure to make the shifts firmer.
Which can add a little life to a trans cause it decreases slippage.
A trans that shift soft and slow is done by making the trans slip some

ok, good. so it sounds like mine may have a shift kit in it. even if it doesn't it shifts really firm all the time. but from what i am hearing that is a good thing and theres nothing to worry about. it does shift fast as well. fast and firm. I also believe i have 4:10 gears.
