2005 f150 transmission problem
I have had the check engine light on for a while now with the truck shuttering and bucking along with loss of power. feels like there is something holding back the power. Just a couple days ago I was driving on the freeway and all of a sudden it felt like I was in neutral, tried to accelerate but the engine revved but wouldn't go anywhere, I clicked the overdrive on and it went into gear and I was able to drive home. Now every time I drive it, it goes a block or two in drive then again feels like neutral, put in overdrive and it goes into gear. Please help!!!! I just put in new ignition coils.

Don't go into a place with what may be incorrect advice.
Let them figure it out.
If it comes back as what you are told ok.
It may be something altogether different.
It may only need a widget worth $1.49. But if you are prepared for XXXX times that and tell them what your neighbours uncle three times removed said they may say, "hmmmmm".

I had the servo ring snap on my 04 5.4 and I told the transmission place I suspected that was the problem (from information on this board) but they pulled it out and took it all apart and said "well yes , it DOES need the ring but there is other wear also , so I got it rebuilt for $2500 , if I had it to do over , I would have had them just drop the pan and see if the snap ring was broken and replace it , there is a great video on here that shows what a simple job it is . In the future I would just replace it myself .

The problem with taking it to a trans shop for the snap ring is now since they have been into the trans if anything else fails its their fault and the customer will want it fixed for free. That's why most shops will try to sell you a complete overhaul or reman trans. I have seen it many times. It's not hard to pull the valve body and fix it yourself. You might get lucky and find a shop that will replace just the ring.
