to get or not to get... 750 cfm holly dbl pumper...

Yes as the tag says do I get it or not. I am building my 71 Lincoln motor but I want to be able to tow with it and still perform while maintaining some gas mileage. Is 750 dbl pumper too much for the 460. BTW its going in a 75 f250 camper special supercab with c6 2 wheel drive. 200 bucks or said he'd trade for parts... Not sure exactly what yet I would trade for it but yeah tell me your thoughts....

Pass on it....A "double pumper" sounds good while bench racing but it'll be WORSE for mpg compared to a 750 with vacuum secondaries.

A double pumper squirts all four barrels whether you need it or not... vacuum secondaries will activate based on engine load (like towing) or when ya quickly stomp on the go-pedal.

For a 460 within the typical RPM range for these rigs stick with a 650 cfm to 700 cfm carb... with vacuum secondaries.

If the 1 that came on the motor is in good working condition, why change anything. Bigger aint always better no matter what your wife says.

$400 buys you a brand new 770cfm if you're okay with that route. Otherwise, it's a matter of checking Craigslist, eBay, and swap meets and hoping that what you're sold isn't leaking or broken. Carburetors are one of the things I'd much prefer buying new.

2x.... But there is one low-buck option out there for a new carb... Check out Summit's house-branded 750 cfm Holley clone for $300.

For street use I would advise staying away from mechanical secondary carbs.

I see no reason to go with a Holley when Summit makes them much cheaper. Aside from efi carbs, none of the technology has changed.

Vacuum secondaries and a vacuum advance on the distributor will help mileage. The summit carb will work fine for your situation and it's a good deal. Holley also makes a street avenger series that has vacuum secondaries and electric choke, they are entry level and priced accordingly. The summit carb will be the cheapest new carb you can buy. I have used both with good results, I don't like edelbrock carbs but it's mainly personal preference. I have seen plenty work just fine.

We had a 460 in a f250 with a double pumper and we got 6mpg!

Unless your building the crap out off it, stick with a 650. My mild 460 was just fine with the 650 edelbrock.
