Parking brake cable retainer clips?

Parking brake cable retainer clips?
Am installing new parking brake cables for my 50 F3 (going to a 1959 Ford 9" rear that didn't come from the salvage yard with any). When I received the new cables from Mac's Antiques I found that they did not include any retaining clips to secure the cable to the brake backing plate. The outer cable effectively slips right through the hole in the backing plate, where it should be retained. Figuring that I had ordered a wrong part, I purchased two more from another supplier - LMCTruck. Same result! And the cables are clearly from different manufacturers, so the problem looks like it's not with the cable part itself but with me or my backing plate.
What am I missing here (literally and figuratively)? I can find no reference in the parts manuals that I have access to for a separate clip.

Here's what I found. I've never heard of those being separate either. Not sure that you can "add" them to an existing cable tho...
