Manual heater non ac questions

Hello Dentsiders

I traded my ac in cab parts for non ac and I have a couple of questions

1) Where does the drivers side kick panel manual vent get its cold air from?
I removed the factory plate and while everything is a bolt in there isnt any cold air intake I can detect... is there a hole thru the firewall in non ac trucks for this for fresh air?

2) I may be missing a piece in the trade.. where the unit picks up its fresh air on the passenger side.. is there some kind of gasket/part that mates it to the uniit.. a picture would be awesome if anyone has one.. my setup is missing that part

Thank you

The fresh air on the driver's side comes from the cowl at the base of the windshield just like the passenger side.
Look at the illustration of the heater in the link below, sounds like you're missing basic part number 18A568.

Thank you Mike.. your PDF was super helpful and showed what I am missing

Im still at a loss on the fresh air drivers pickup... I can access the area with my hand and it does go up to the cowl but inside the cab as far as I can tell.. no opening to the outside.... is this the design?

I'm not too sure what you're asking.
On the driver's side, the vent is a mirror image of the one on the passenger side. The air enters the cowl at the base of the windshield and flows to either the right or left. If it goes to the left (driver's) side it flows into the top of the plenum chamber located on the outside of the kick panel. It can then flow into the passenger compartment through a vent that's built into a plastic panel that is screwed to the kick panel. This panel has a slide that you can move back and forth to control or shut off the air flow.
Trucks with factory A/C don't use this vent and the plastic panel is replaced by a metal block off plate that seals the vent.
