Yes, my AC does work great when the switch is on AC or Max AC. The problem is it also refridgerates air when I have the switch to the right of the off position. When I put the switch to the "panel/floor" position it actually chills the air. This is kind of a pain in the but cuz all I realy want is vent air without having to move the red/blue dial. I hate driving with my windows down. Any sollutions? If this is normal I would consider it a poor design. Help please.
If the 2002 switch setup is still like the 1997, the A/C can run (depending on outside temperature) in all switch positions except Panel, Off, and Floor. When I'm not using the A/C I usually run it in "Panel". Panel is the position that used to be called "Vent" years ago.
All switch positions should bring in outside air except the Max A/C position. In Max A/C, the recirculation door opens to take in cab air, and the outside air inlet closes.
The difference between "Panel" and "Floor" is where the air comes out. Panel at dash level, Floor at, well, floor
I know that when I move the switch to the "Panel/floor" position, the AC is active. To tell you the truth, I am not sure about the "panel" position. I seem to remember that it also activates the AC but not sure (I almost never use just the "panel" position). The thing about the running depending on the outside temperature is interesting, when did they start including climate control thermostats in base models? If that is true though, I'll check it out. Damn, I wish I could just have a worry free "vent" possition. Thanks guys, ya'll gave me something to go by.
The "Panel" position, or the "Floor" position will do what you want.
But NOT the "Panel&Floor" position, as the A/C compressor can run in that position.
In "Panel&Floor", "Floor&Defrost" and "Defrost" positions, the A/C compressor will run to aid by dehumidifying. But only if it is warmer than roughly 30 degrees F or so. The cutoff on whether it runs or not is the system gas pressure as sensed by the Cycling Pressure Switch. If it is cold enough outside, the system equalibrium gas pressure will be below the minimum pressure required to close the switch, so the compressor will not run. That method has been used for many years on the FFOT (Ford Fixed Orifice Tube) A/C systems.
Panel is my non-A/C position of choice. Try it, you'll like it!
