Yes you can add them, I put them in my 86 eddie bauer, when you pull the kick panel off, there is a metal plate that covers the hole, the plate is held on with 4 screws, take that off and the vent screws into the same place.
I bought mine at a local yard for 20 bucks for both sides, I just had to paint them to match.
Ok, I read your post this morning and headed right for the u-pull-it. I found a nice gray set to match my truck, and my buddy there hooked me up for $5. Can't beat that. Now I have to clean and install them.
I looked in the truck I took them out of, but I didn't see anything special in there. Where are the plates to take out? Thanks!
You won't find them on the truck you took the vents out of. They will be in your truck, there should of been 4 screws to take the vent out, those are the screw holes used to hold the vent in place on your truck. Behind that metal plate you will see the opening that the air flows threw when you have the vents open.
Thanks. Just finished up. I had to respray the kick panels, but not the vents. They were both already gray, but just to freshen them a bit. They fit good. I havn't even driven it yet though. The plain panels had a little cleaner look to them, but the vents arn't that noticable. I'd rather have vents I can use if I want than those plates that were in there.
And you wouldn't believe the leaves in the driver's side! Looked like mulch in there! I vacuumed both sides while I was at it, and even up in the cowl. At least I know those areas lead to outside air!
I got some black kick panel manual vents a while back that I pulled out of a 1986 Ford Bronco with air conditioning. My truck does not have air conditioning and they still worked fine. I redid my interior to black and I was able to get black kick panel vents...looks great! I found some black door panels with manual slide locks, with chrome trim that I plan on getting for my truck...can't wait till I get them, because that will complete the interior of my truck (being black).
