Looking for advice on a barn find 1979
First, I am not sure if this should be posted under the "For Sale" section, so please move if so, but I am mostly looking for market information/advice regarding this truck.
I am looking for any information regarding the value of a pretty interesting 1979 F-100 Ranger Lariat. I am located in North Dakota and my family has been prepping for an estate sale of my late grandmother set for later this spring. In her years, she collected many (many, many) things, and one of them is this 1979 truck. My dad and I are pretty well versed in the muscle car world (we restore chevelles/novas/corvettes/anything else), but figuring out a value for this particular vehicle has us a little stumped.
What we have is a brand-new, showroom condition, 1979 Ford F-100 with only 117 actual miles. This pickup was bought new by a farmer in Minnesota, stored indoors and never used, and then my grandmother purchased it at an estate sale around 2000-2001, parked it indoors, and again never used it. We have kept it maintained, runs great, and has absolutely no wear/restoration/anything. We are now going to be looking to sell it soon to settle up the estate, but it is such a unique piece that pinning down a value is very difficult.
I haven't had much time to narrow down all of the specifics, but here are the general specs on the truck. I am hoping to pick the brains of the enthusiasts here to help get a ballpark, or perhaps to find a home for this vehicle. It's a 1979 F-100 Ranger Lariat. I haven't looked up the exact names for the color codes, but it's a brown/bronze metallic, tan bench interior. This truck is 2wd, PS/PB, 302 V8, automatic, and runs/drives great. It is outfitted with basically every chrome accessory available, bumper guards, door window deflectors, bed rails, tie downs, and all the chrome is in excellent condition.
I haven't had time to pull any pictures. We just pulled it out of storage yesterday to do our annual "checkup" on the truck, and will get it washed up soon (whenever the weather warms up in NoDak...). If anyone has any input, suggestions, questions, please post them here or message me and I will work on getting out replies as I get a chance. I really appreciate anything that you have to contribute, and look forward to finding someone to really appreciate this 1979.

A value for a truck like that is going to be very hard to come up with. I would love to see the pics. Hard to believe that someone would buy a truck and then never use it for 35 years, but it does happen. It needs to be in an auction setting to being the highest value and get people bidding on it. Set a reserve on it also. It could bring $50K to the right buyer or $10K. I really don't know. Get the truck appraised first buy a reputable auto appraiser and go from there.

I agree, an auction setting is going to garner a lot more money. eBay is great for this, and it will get nationwide/world exposure. Take LOTS of high res photographs.
It takes guts, but a no reserve auction will usually end up at a lot higher final price. When you start an auction with a reserve it's just different. People like to think they are getting a deal, and people just ignore the auction no matter what it is. You want to tickle their greed gland. Start that thing at .99c and hang on....

I agree with everything that has been said so far. This one is really hard to value and I also believe would bring the best price at auction, be it eBay or specific auto auction. Finding the right buyer(s) is going to be the challenge and exposure is key. If nothing else, if you go forward with the estate sale in ND, advertise it as much as possible in the Twin Cities area.
The suggestion to throw in MANY high resolution pics is also a must.
Two things jump out at me that will unfortunately hurt the final sale price in my opinion:
1) It's a two wheel drive
2) It's a two wheel drive that isn't a shortbox
(this is coming from a guy with a longbox 2wd '79 as well)
At 117 original miles it will still bring a premium, but how many guys willing to shell out big bucks for a long box 2wd is (obviously) the mystery.
I thought my '79 had low miles with 27,000 on it, yours is unreal!
I'd also love to see pics, please post when you get some, it would be a great reference for any of us doing a stock restoration!
Best of luck!

Neighborhood kids playing baseball in the street, ball hit by kid goes thru trucks back window.
Guy looks at the window, then drives the truck into his garage. It didn't come out of that guys garage until he passed away...in 2002.
Total miles: 7!
Howard Hughes buys a 1955 Packard Caribbean as a gift for his wife. She doesn't want it, so it reposes at Hughes' HQ at 7000 Romaine St. in Hollywood for the next 22 years.
After Hughes passed away, Packard was sold, it had 25 miles on it.

The other thing with value is even though it only has 117 miles, it still sat in a barn for many years without moving. To get it road worthy will take some cash and time and there still will be some gremlins to work out. Unless the buyer just wants to get it and let it sit also, a buyer who wants to get it up and running will need to do some investing. There will be a small market but who knows.

Could we see some pictures? Here is how.
But I got ta say becoming a supporter is the fastest and easiest way to post pics right from
your whatever pad/cell thing or home computer.
Few of us look in the users Gallery or album as you can see by your recent visitors.

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

Go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and sign up for a free account. Then create an album for your truck. Upload any pics you want to post on FTE to that album. Have this album open on your computer when you want to post pics on FTE.
While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
The best photos and videos | Photobucket
Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).
When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).
Your pic will be placed in the post.
Hope that helps.
Here's a tutorial Bob put together: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/67...-pictures.html Bob's link is not working. Can someone in the know tell me why?

I agree that an ebay auction or specific auto auction is the best way to sell a truck like that. Okay, it isn't a short box or 4X4 but it is a Lariat and those are difficult to find in good condition. Someone will pay a decent price for a new 35 year old truck. Yes, it might have some issues from sitting all these years but it is complete, original, unmolested, and will have absolutely no body repair needs. Those things are worth a great deal to most car/truck enthusiasts. It is unlikely that you will get the same results on an estate auction.
My guess is $10K.
