Has anyone taken out 1948-52 rad support upper bar?

The condenser on the front of the radiator I have won't mount on the rad support they way it is because of the bar on the rad support. Has anyone removed the bar at the top of the radiator or modified it? How did you modify it if you did?

Any help is appreciated.

I would think that that bar is very structural to the front sheet metal since the whole front end mounts off of the radiator saddle. If you modify it, make sure its strong enough.

I just had this discussion a couple of weeks ago with Vintage Air. They recommended that I use a condenser that fits below the cross bar. The cross bar is part of the support structure. The condenser does not have to cover the entire front core of the radiator to work properly. The Vintage Air part number that they recommended for my 48 was 03260-VUC. Using the universal brackets that come with the condenser it mounted up quite nicely.

I was just thinking about this the other day as well. Mounted my radiator between the uprights of the saddle instead of behind it. Decided to leave the support for the same reason other's have mentioned

Knowing how integral the radiator support is to the integrity of the entire front clip, leaving it as originally designed is exactly the right call.
