One of the side tanks in my radiator developed a large crack on the way home today. It didn't overheat before I got home, but it left a nice stream of antifreeze on the driveway when I parked it. So the radiator needs to be replaced.
The truck is the 86 F350 2wd with the 460.
I have an 86 F250 4wd with a diesel that is no longer safe to drive and is getting parted out. If I move the radiator core support with it, can I put the diesel radiator in the truck with the 460?
I took some rough measurements earlier, and it looks like it could fit but the fan would be pretty (really) close, and the front sway bar would have to go.
Am I missing or overlooking anything? Will it fit or should I bite the bullet and buy a new radiator? (Really the only reason I'm even asking is because it could save me a few bucks...)
Thickness would be my concern but you say you've already measured.
Personally I'd just spend the $100 on a new radiator for the 460. Yes, it's not fun but you'd have the correct radiator, wouldn't have to swap the support and it'd be new. I got one from amazon a couple weeks ago for my 460 and am happy with it.
Also, why would the sway bar have to go? Asking because I am planning on taking the front bar from an 84 idi 250 and putting it on my 85 350. Assumed it would fit right on. You found otherwise?
That's not a bad price for a radiator. Slightly cheaper than O'Reilly's. I think my wife has an amazon account...
I think the diesel one is too thick to fit in there without some modification. It would have been a lot more work, but $100 is $100
On my 350, the front sway bar runs almost right under the radiator, and since the diesel core support drops down below the bottom of the frame rails, I don't think they would work together.

Yeah, I noticed the sway bar on the diesel is pretty close to the radiator also and almost goes up into the bumper. Wonder if they made different ones for gas/diesel.
I went and double checked the sway bar, and the one in my truck is lined right up with the backside of the core support mounts. No way it would work with the diesel radiator.
I did go and order a radiator with my wifes Amazon Prime account. Low price and free two day shipping. Can't beat that.
