I have a 1999 F250 super duty with the V10 engine. I purchased it when it was @111k miles. When I got it the passenger side lock did not always work and after time they both stopped. I have ready the post on how to repair them for little or no money that is not my question. My question Is there a way that I can tell if the truck had a remote for the locks when it was new and if not could I put it in the truck? Yes my wife likes that I unlock her door first but a remote would be nice when it is raining. Thanks for the help
Look for programming remotes either on here or on youtube or even try google. There is a series that you can go through by turning the truck on and off rapidly to see if the locks will cycle and if they do then you have the system for the remotes and if not then you don't. If I remember its something like on, off either 5 or 8 times, not starting just to the run side.
Well I tried the key thing and nothing happened. Can I get the electronics from somewhere and install it myself? has anybody tried?
A remote starter or a remote opener? (fob). Do you have the pats system with the red anti theft light that blinks all the time, and the key with plastic on the head with an oval offset hole?
Far from dumb question.
A remote start would be cheaper and simpler then. If I had that I would have a remote for sure. I still would have someone install it though so I possibly wouldn't have 100 hours of frustration.
Well I went and got a remote stater and door lock remote kit. Going to try and put it in this weekend if the weather lets me (I live in WI)
Thanks for the help

I would have it done by a pro and it's not as much for a non PATS. It's not worth screwing it up.
When I do it I strip about 1/2 off the wires wrap the new wire around and solder then tape or put liquid electrical tape on the connections..I don't ever use those blue connectors.
