VIN help, axle help, dual leafsprings
#1
Hey everybody. Finally entered the 20th Century and learned how to post pics from this dang phone. It's pretty tortuous though, so if you wanna see the leaf spring shot it's in my album, question: Did 64 F100 have the option for two sets of leaf springs (in the back) or did somebody add them? Was told this truck had a cab over camper?? Also that it was a conservation truck. Think I remember a county sticker on it. It really seems like it needs a fourth gear. Has three on the tree. What axle and rear end is it probably, any way to tell from VIN?
Know it came outta Kansas City, Academy Blue, 292, longbed. Armrests were optional, (drivers side has one) no washer/squirter for windshield. Not good inclement weather with frozen road slush. If it's raining hard it's pretty white knuckle too for some reason. One speed wiper - On, or Off. And then, there's the brakes. Good heater though. Sent from my iPhone using IB AutoGroup

The leaf springs are probably added on at the factory. Does it look like there's a 1" thick or so aluminum spacer between the 2 sets of leafs? The bottom set is your main leaf spring pack the top ones are your overload springs. Mine had them. Usually see them on camper specials to hold the extra weight of a camper or trailer. Does your rear axle have the tag still on it? Should be held on by one of the bolts for the diff cover. Should tell you what gear ratio you have. I'm guessing you have 4.10 gears atleast from what you said. Here's a pic of my leaf springs.

Your VIN decodes as: F10 = F100 2 wheel drive truck. C = 292 cubic inch Y block V8 with 2 bbl carb. K = Kansas City build plant. 558537 = built in June, 1964. Axle code 11 = 3.70 gears in a Ford 9 inch non-limited slip differential. DSO 52 = truck was ordered from Des Moines District Sales Office. It is not a special order vehicle. Hope this helps.

Hey thanks! Seems to me those leaf springs pictured are beefier than my setup. Will have to look closer. There is a pic in my album. The tag is still there pretty sure. 3.70? Will go look, have to finish up fuel tank later.
It seems that it's pretty wound up at 70 or 80 so, is that supposed to be normal? Have to find my tach and put that back in.

Rear Springs are the same: 1957/67 F100 2WD.
1964 F100 2WD available with 5 leaf spring pack (950# load rate) & 6 leaf spring pack (1250# load rate).
Optional was a single auxiliary leaf spring.
But any 5 - 6 - 9 (1965/67) - 12 (1957/60) leaf spring pack will fit...as long as you use the correct u-bolts.
