Steering Wheel Gap HELP

Steering Wheel Gap HELP
I recently purchased a new shift collar for my 62 F100 Manual 2WD. After installing it along with the original turn signal flange; I now have a bigger gap between the turn signal flange and steering wheel than I previously did.
So I put back on the original shift collar and the gap remains the same. I can clearly see where the steering wheel spring was before I took everything apart on the the steering shaft. The gap is now about 3/4". Looks like it was about 1/4", which from reading on here, is too much.
According the the previous owner, the cab mounts are only a year old. They look pretty good to me but I'm not positive.
I removed these parts and installed them back on in about a weeks time frame. The truck hasn't moved. Any ideas what happened or what I did wrong? How can I fix this? Thank you!

Same truck I have. There is some adjustment in the steering tube. Loosen the clamp at the base of the dashboard and slide the tube back up. There is a limit of travel but that may be enough to help you out. retighten the clamp. Check your shift rods as they will move with the steering column.

The shop manual specifies a 1/16 inch gap. It do not say if it is from the outer lip or the inner lip of the steering wheel. I do not think it matters as long as your turn signals cancel and the gap does not bother you.
You adjust the gap by moving the column and tightening the clamp on the dash. I used a drill bit as a guage.
