Squeak when engine is killed?
While I don't know the answer, but it must be a common problem, because mine has the same described "squeak". I also hear it when I go over bumps with the windows open. Its not as annoying with the radio on though
Anyone know what the "squeak" is , I'll be willing to know too.

Squeak when engine is killed?
my brothers '01 cummins has a loud squeak when he shuts it off and he tells me it is the belt. common sense leads me to believe this is true.
because of the high compression ratios in diesel engines they stop rotating very quickly when shut off. all those rotating accessories must also come to a halt or they may rotate a bit more after the engine has stopped causing the squeak. this sounds believable but it is a theory i just came up with.

Squeak when engine is killed?
A guy where Iwork just bought a 2002 dodge cummins and it also squeals when shut off. I told him he should at least go back to the dealer and ask about it. He did and that is the reason they gave him. It was the belt because everything was coming to a halt so quickly. They walked over to another gentleman who was there with a dodge and they asked him to start it and shut it off and it did the same thing too!!
I'm guessing this is more of a problem with the Dodge. I havn't heard much about it from the Fords and mine does not do it. Thats not to say it doesn't happen to some though.
