59 F100 Fordomatic Backup light(?) switch

Greetings all,

Getting down to the details on my '59. I have a 3 speed Fordomatic behind my 292.

Here comes the dumb question....

On the steering column just in the engine box is a switch. Part of the harness goes through it and I believe that it is for either the backup lights or possibly the nuetral switch.

My switch is worn out.

a. What is the name of this switch?

b. Anybody know where to get a replacement?

As always, TIA,

Greg

The correct name is a "Nuetral Safety Switch" in Ford terminology. Part number is B2AZ 7A247-A, which fits many cars and trucks back to 1952. In your series trucks it fits all years, 57-60. You can try many of the obsolete parts houses or go to www.motorplace.com, then choose "Parts voice" and you'll see a area to select make of vehicle(Ford) and then list the part number without the space and dash. (b2az7a247a) It will come back with any place that has one and you will get phone numbers. You have to use your zip code as the password. I use it all the time and by-pass Ebay as much as I can.

Good luck,
Barry

Hi Barry,

Many thanks!! I was hoping to get a name of a part! But to get the part # and potential sources? Wowwwwwww!

Just a quick point of clarification.... This is the neutral safety switch that goes on an automatic? I tried pulling a used one off of a manual tranny and it was different.

Many thanks, again!!

Yes, it's for a automatic. When you referred to the Fordomatic, I'm assuming you mean a automatic tranny. The standard shift one is for back up lights only. It's completely different.
