Switch Under Gas Pedal

On my '59 there's a switch under the accelerator pedal. My Chevy friend (we can peacefully co-exist with at least some of them) thinks it's for activating an overdrive solenoid. My truck came with a Ford-o-Matic.

Could it be an early version of a kick down switch tied to the transmission?

seems to me I remember some starter switches mounted that way.... prevents you starting up in gear ??? you pressed the clutch to the floor and activated the switch with the pressure plate disengaged ???

or am I just crazy ?

only switch I have ever seen under the accelerator pedal is an overdrive kickdown, check the VIN trans code and see what trans it came with

I believe I have one also, noticed it this past weekend. I have a 4-speed manual in my '60 F100 with a 223 cu. Have not had time to look into it.

My '59 has the switch under the gas pedal. It's the kick down switch for the overdrive.
