Rev test. Whats it mean

Yesterday I thought I would do this so called rev test and sure enough at 2300-2500 rpm the truck stuttered and smoked like a guy that just got caught cheating on his wife(no I've never cheated on my wife but could imagine). Trucks got 270k miles on it. When I start I up cold it will idle rough for about 10 sec and send out a good shot of blue smoke then just a slight haze of blue for maybe another 5 min. I looked in the fuel bowl last night but I changed the filter and oil about 800 miles ago and I think the oil is still to clean to show up in the fuel bowl if it is leaking. What's the next step. I tried sifting through some other threads and couldn't really find much for answers mostly just dead ends and dropped threads

Sounds like it's time for injector o-rings. Mine did the same thing. I changed them and actually got some power back. They aren't that hard to do, just follow all the steps. You can find out how to pull the injectors in the tech folder.
Also have you done glow plugs recently? Cause it's a good time to do them too. My fuel bowl and filter were clean but I had 3 injectors with chewed up o-rings that were hard. Buy the reliant ones from riff raff (they are the oe replacement) and then drive the truck like you stole it. It will run like new.

Edit:spelling

Alright. If I'm pulling the injectors anyway should I have them tested while there out. Also, can anyone explain why it's only in that rpm range

I've got an 01 F550 that does that same thing. I always thought it was a fuel supply issue. Maybe its because its calling for more fuel? Not sure, how does it run going down the road?

I'm not sure if this is the right answer to that question, but it is my guess that at lower rpms the ICP isn't high enough to force the oil through the bad o-ring at a rate that will affect fuel delivery of the injector that it is noticeable. The higher the rpms, the higher the ICP and the fuel demand, so the higher the ICP, the more oil that is forced past the bad o-ring and not letting that injector fire properly and deliver the same amount of fuel as the rest, so that's why you start to feel the shutter. Like I said, that's just my guess

Yep. Quite a bit worse I think. Hard to tell it's just got a single pipe. It smokes a little blue for about 5-10 minutes. Although it doesn't seem to sputter while going down the road. Mind you the road was white and it was a little tough paying attention to the tailpipe while keeping her straight in 5th gear. Slightly slick today

The colder is got the more mine would smoke. It would sit and smoke for 15-20 mins if I didn't rev it.

Alright. When I pull them I'll send em to get tested. I have. Been thinking about stage 1s but couldn't justify it, but if the injectors are out anyways...... That being said it will definatly cost some extra loot and time
