4x4 xfer case P1832 & P1876
No drivability issue and no CEL (haven't used 4wd for a few weeks) but I ran across these codes on my truck. I'm not very knowledgable on 4x4 stuff. A quick look I saw two connectors on the transfer case, a large grey plug coming out of the driver side and a two wire connector on the bottom attached to a plastic housing that looks like it could be a motor or something. Both connectors were clean and tight. I cleared the codes and they come back immediately if the ESOF switch is in 2WD but not in 4HI or 4low.
Are the 4WD and 2WD solenoids the same part? Any troubleshooting I can do before throwing a solenoid or two at it? Though about ohming out the wiring to the TCM but I don't know which plug to suspect and FORScan says it's the GEM so I'm a little confused.
FORScan Info:
P1832- Transmission Transfer Case 4WD Solenoid circuit failure
Module:Generic Electronic Module
----Possible Causes----
Open circuit
Short to ground
Short to battery
P1876- Transfer Case 2-Wheel Drive Solenoid Circuit Open Or Short To Ground
Module:Generic Electronic Module
----Possible Causes-----
-Open Transfer Case System
-Suspect Transfer Case System

good to know! forgot to ask if it would hurt anything to drive it. I can take it out in the mud tomorrow and see if the 4x4 is working. Wish i had checked the freeze frame data before I cleared the codes the first time. Is it correct to refer to the PCM and/or TCM as a GEM? (just trying to keep my lingo straight)

Ahh, I have seen my climate control panel not power up a few times also. Usually in really hot weather. As someone here suggested, flipping the headlights on and off will cause it to power up. So this stuff is related and trans codes are more likely a digital (logic) problem than a analog wiring or solenoid issue?

Looks like $300 plus programming is the lowest price I could find on a new part. Apparently after '03 (the last year with just a "GEM") it's a "smart junction fuse box GEM". As in a whole new f2! Wow, great potential for a major headache. Think I'll take BTO's advice and try try try to let it ride .
