Emissions test question

Emissions test question
Hey everyone!! I live in California, and it's no secret that our Emission testing is severe to say the least! I am considering using a stroker kit on my 1996 7.5 Mass Air California Emissions F350. The engine is slightly hurt, and probably will not pass the pipe portion of the Emission test(has a random miss #5 cylinder). My question is to any of you who do a lot of emissions testing, if you think a 501 cubic inch 385 block, will pass emissions, by passing the pipe portion of the test. All else on this truck is stock and everything is hooked up and working. Thanks in advance! Dale

VERY POSSIBLE.........BUT.......
My girlfriends dad has a 5.0 mustang ( i know this about trucks, but the idea is the same ). He wanted some better power without failing smog (in CA). He had the motor stroked to 347. He cut the stock factory intake in half, cleared it out a bit, had it welded back together, smoothed the welds and painted it "aluminum" color. He had a custom cam made with the specific intent of passing smog. You have to find the right guy. It is all about making the smog ref think you have nothing done. Your smog equipment must be working top notch as well. New o2 sensor and a cat will go a long way.I figured you needed some feedback my post about mud behind the freeze plugs has sat there for a week with nothing but views almost forgot, the mustang smogs no problem and RIPS!!! Good luck, maybe some pics?

like bb65 said a stroker can be made to pass.
more cubes wont get you a fail, its usually the tings that come with it that cause a fail, eg. porting and polishing, cams, headers etc.
I know its a bit of a push for you but down in the antelope valley there is a sped shop called r&e racing that have built quite a few 500+ ci big block fords that pass smog. they are who im gunna talk to about what works and what doesn't when I do my rebuild

My plan is to build a solid stroker that probably won't pass smog, then pick up a junkyard 460 and do a rering and gaskets. That way every 2 years I just have to pull and swap the motors out. It's alot of work for just a smog test but the days of giving a guy 200 bucks to pencil whip it are damn near over

Pull engine.
Years ago I might have done it that way, but years have passed and I just can't do the heavy stuff any more! I know being older means working smarter, it just hurts to much, too many years of big truck work. Good luck with your big inch thumper, and beat up on a Chevy when you get the chance! Dale

Shock!
I took my 96 F350 7.5 to have it's Smog Check today. I had been expecting it to not pass, because when it's cold, it has 1 piston making a little noise, so I was figuring on it failing and have been planning on a new engine build. Well it passed , passed very well too! That's good, cause now I have 2 years to do something with the engine!! Dale
