Converting shifter, kinda...advice?

OK, so my truck is a bit of an oddball. It's what appears to be a F250 Highboy chassis (8 lug axles, 4X4, divorced transfer case) with a I6 and what was previously a 3 on the tree setup. At some point, a previous owner made a home made shifter setup next to the drivers side bucket seats consisting of 2 shifters, 1 connected to each shift tab on the tranny (1 for 1st and reverse, and another for 2nd and 3rd). This setup works fine and I actually kinda like it and wanted to keep it, but I need seating for 3 and buckets just don't cut it. The other caveat I should mention is that the cab looks to be an F100 cab, if it makes any difference.

What I'd like to do is convert it to a regular floor shift next to the 4X4 shifter. From what I've found on here, it looks like the shifter in the link below is the way to go and to stay away from the Mr Gasket kit.

Column Shift to Floor Shift Conversion Kit

Can anyone tell me if this is still the preferred solution, or is there something better out there? Is this kit all inclusive with regards to parts or am I going to need to do additional shopping? How big of a job is it to install one of these kits? I've never tackled anything like this before.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Nick

the link you posted shows a Mr. Gasket shifter??????? If I .had to do over I would definitely not use a Mr. Gasket but go with a Hurst Indy or something similar.

Well I must have grabbed the wrong link. I thought this was the one folks were recommending, but couldn't see a brand for it on the website I linked.

I looked at the Indy shifter as well. Do you know if there are any concerns with clearance for the seat, reach, etc?

I just did this with a 68 2wd and have factory bench. I did not have those issues but not like yours.

Does anyone know if there's any issues because I have 4wd? Every shifter I've looked at says for 2wd

I just did this on my 70 f250, except I went from manual to auto, I used a American Shifter setup that leaves you with a lot of mounting locations. I called them and they were able to put together a kit for me with exactly what I wanted. Just be careful if your trans has the fins on top st the bottom of the bellhousing, I had to remove quite a bit to get it to fit. But other then that it was a pretty easy kit and I'd recommend it. Mine is 4x4 and I don't anticipate having any problems because of it.

Your engine and transmission setup should be identical to a 2wd truck, so if the kit works on 2wd it should work on yours. It may liist it as 2wd only because the 4wd would have had a 4 speed tranny with the shifter built into the trans.
