transmission electrical problems
I've got an e99 250 w/ 175k miles on it. auto trans, 8" lift, 38" toyo's, and a dp tuner. I've been having some intermittent transmission problems that I was hoping to get some help on. most times everything is a ok, but sometimes i'll get any one of a couple problems. my symptoms are: -from take off at a light, I get little to no "go". feels like a clutch is engaged at about 90%. then truck wants to sort of die out. almost like a fuel issue. I believe this is what I've seen referred to as "limp mode" -i'll take off, roll about 30 feet, then it feels like a clutch is engaged at about 15%. roll a little ways then it quits. -some slight slippage randomly, but I would say in just 1st and 2nd.
now, these problems occur only maybe 10% (?) of the time. the truck runs good otherwise.
I had a hunch maybe I had some gunk in the filter that was blocking oil flow occasionally, so I changed the filter and replaced the 6 qts I lost on the change. filter was pretty clean, very little smegma in the bottom of the pan, and the fluid smelled as though it came straight out of the bottle. no noticeable difference after the change.
took the truck to a transmission shop that offered "free diagnosis". they hooked it up to a scanner and drove. said it was commanding random gear shifts while sitting at a light. and, basically, when you took off you were in whatever gear it wanted to be in. they'd need to do another 6hrs diagnostics to know anymore. and they couldn't do anything until I let them change my fuel filter because the o ring is seeping some fuel. also, they would need to start by flushing the transmission. I declined, thanked them for their time, and here I am.
oh, I tried putting the truck in 1st and manually upshifting. I couldn't get the truck to replicate any of my problems. if I left it in drive and it started to do any one of these I could manually shift to 1st and it seemed to correct it. maybe my mind just wanted that to be the case though.
so......any ideas??? sorry for the novel guys, i'm just trying to be thorough with my assessment

so, getting a scan tool is next on my list. was all set on an a/e, but i think I'm actually going to end up getting a DP Tuner Infinity
because I'm not really familiar with what these scan tools are capable of, what should i be looking for?
also, i have been battling electrical issues ever since my truck was stolen. busted ignition fried the GEM and water damage toasted the fuse panel. now it looks like I'm having some electrical issues aside from just the transmission. is it just the PCM that interacts with the transmission? or could the culprit be another module?
thanks a bunch mark and anyone else that wants to chime in. you all are life savers
