ZF 5-speed master and slave cylinder

I'm looking at replacing the clutch master and slave cylinders on my 1988 F250 with the ZF S5-42 (bulldog 5-speed) Back as a tech at the Ford dealer I remember installing master/slave kits on the newer (99+ style) F250s, where the master and slave came together with the tube between them and filled with fluid, no bleeding required. Just put them on and go. Ive looked all over the internet for something like this for the older ones with no luck. The parts on mine look identical (all plastic with a plastic tube) Has anyone seen or installed these on an older truck? Thanks.

The tube has to go through the bell housing, i don't see how they could sell it pre-bled

The ZF which came bolted to the 460 and 7.3 had an external slave, right?

Correct. the 460 and diesel are external Slave that push on the fork.

Small blocks are internal

Thanks Jas88. Diesel Brad: Was the dorman a complete assembly or separate master and slave? From what ive been able to find, if you separate the components, you have to bench bleed the slave. There is no mention of bleeding with a bleeder screw.

Good to know. I was kinda surprised they had no listing for the complete assem. I know the BB and diesel are the same, I was just thinking they changed the master between 91 and 92

What seems to be the problem bleeding them? I have seen several references to hard-to-bleed slaves. While I have never done one on a Ford, the process seems straight forward on other applications.

Well, the air-flows-uphill deal would be working against you. I imagine "bench bleeding" means "put MC in vise with slave above the MC"?

The problem is that when the slave is installed in the truck, the bleeder is not at the highest point, and some don't even have bleeders. The way I solve this is to park the truck facing uphill as steeply as possible (at my house I can make it quite steep). Then pump the hell out of the pedal, let it sit for an hour, and repeat this 4-5 times during the course of the day. This will get you enough pedal to drive it and the rest of the air will work it's way out by driving it every day for a week or so.

I know this sounds very passive and so I hated it when it was described to me, but so far it has worked for me every time.
