Water pump leak.

My water pump gasket is leaking on the lower bolt next to the bottom elbow. Would y'all replaced the whole pump or just the gasket? I'm thinking the whole thing

Why not switch to the IH pump with the integrated filter?

IIRC that is not a direct bolt on, on an OBS

Check for any play in the fan. If you can move it in and out a little the pump is probably on its way out anyway.

To replace the gasket or the whole pump either way you have to remove it. I would remove it, see if the pump is good and if it is then only replace the gasket. Otherwise the entire thing.

For peace of mind, Replace the pump... move on knowing your pump is good for another 100+k. Simple Mod to just use a International pump as well.

Or replace the gasket and hope you do not have to do it again....

Means you just did a coolant filter, no need to do the IH pump imo. I'd put a new pump on and go.

Here's a pretty good write up. I think Billly said in a thread somewhere that he lost his pic account but still has them on the computer. It'd be nice to see them.

IH water pump with filter. - PowerStrokeArmy
O, hell with going thru all that. I like the idea of an off the shelf water pump(lets face it, napa, advance, Orileies, etc is Not going to stock an IH water pump). And no mods on the side of the road in the event of a failure

And for the cost…
A Diesel Site coolant filter will do the same thing for Less money
