The water pump on my 99 f350 has begun leaking and it will drain out anything put in. My question is would it be possible to just replace a gasket or something(i know it is probably bad but just curious)? Also the pulley is making a loud whirring noise, would that be the pump or pulley bearings?
Your pump has probably completely failed, with the bearing on it's way out. The leak is more likely from the weep hole than the gasket. My water pump has finally given up and currently pisses coolant all over the place, so the truck is parked and waiting for a new pump when I can find the time to do it.
Yep sounds like the pump is bad. Ive never herd of a gasket blowing out on a pump.
If you run a search for Navistar water pump in this forum you will see the mod for using a navistar pump instead of a traditional pump. Lots of info on there about it.
If you decide not to go that route. Bite the bullet and get an OEM pump from clay at riffraffdiesel.com

I would stay away from auto parts stores brands.
And that's why mine is sitting parked waiting for me to get around to it. I haven't quite convinced myself to save up the $350 for a new Motorcraft pump.
I'm sure you know by now but I 2nd that on an OEM pump if not going with the Navistar. I have 210K miles with only 2 pumps. One from the factory and replaced 2nd with OEM at 188K miles with the fingers tightly crossed to last around 400K miles.

I installed one of these last weekend and the install went very well and the parts were top notch. I know it is a bit more expensive than the other option, but I was going to get a filter kit anyway and then felt my time was more valuable than it would save me putting the kit together and modifying the pump myself than just getting the kit below.
