Starting after running out of fuel

I ran my truck out of fuel. Will it hurt anything to crank on it until it's starts again or is there a procedure for bleeding air like in some other types of diesels or what? I have SD pump efuel and can hard wire the pump to prime if need be as well.

I would say that's the way to go. I just ran mine dry on a stock fuel system and it took a good 5 MINUTES of cranking, not counting giving the starter a break every so often, AND having filled the fuel bowl.

The time you spend temp hardwiring the pump will be extended crank time saved on the starter!

I just filled the fuel filter cannister back up and it fired after about 45 seconds of cranking. It hiccupped a few times and smoothed out.

Yeah. I figure it will take a while. I just couldn't remember if extended cranking without fuel is that bad for it or not. Any trucks to restarting faster after fuel loss w e pumps?

I don't have e-fuel yet but think you have to fill the filters with fuel in order for the pump to prime from the tanks. E-pumps like to push, not pull from the tank.

Just fill the filter housing, crank it for 20 sec, then fill housing again. She will kick right off

Finally got it. After it happened I filled the tank and then hardwired the pump to pressurize the system but I couldn't get it over 40 psi. Tried cranking some and no go. Took a several hour break due to being busy at work. Went back out and opened the bottom of the fuel water separator and depressurized the whole thing, filled both filters, then hardwired the pump again and it went right on up to 60 psi and you could hear the air being purged. Cranked right up first time.
