New to me 7.3 Ex...

Recently we found out that my wife was pregnant with triplets, so I knew my truck was going to be a little tight.... with bucket seats up front I could fit three car seats across the back, and my son up front as I don't have a passenger air bag, but then it would only be me and the kids....and I'm not taking out all 4 without re-inforcements lol

So I decided I needed an Excursion, my wife has a caravan that can handle day to day kiddo hauler/grocery getter. But for me the Excursion platform fitts the bill. So I began to look for one that I could afford. And realized very quickly that with my new budget a good 7.3 Ex that wasnt' a rust bucket or getting ready to fall apart was going to be hard to find. A friend had a V10 4x4 Ex and was interested in trading it for my truck, and I drove it for a few days and probably would have traded if I hadn't run across my new ride. So, I bought it and now plan to sell my truck.

Its a '00 4x4 7.3 Limited with 248k on it. I'm the 3 rd owner...the 2nd owner is a service writer at a local ford dealer I used to work for and has owned it since it had 9k on the clock. So ALL service, oil changes and everything has been done at the dealer, even has two nice fresh motorcraft batteries in it.

The Good:

Complete Dealer Service History!
Rancho RS900 Adj. shocks front and back, dual shocks in front.
Decent Tread 285/75/16s
Has Pyro, boost, and Tranny Temp guages
Stock Exhaust with muffler removed
Diablo Chip
Runs and Drives Great!

The Bad:

needs front seats/covers badly, 2nd row also warn with a few tears.
few bumps and bruises all over, nothing major, but a few things I'm going to try to clean up.
Owners son installed a crappy aftermarket JVC headunit (I already yanked it and threw a stock CD/Tape deck back in lol)
Someone stuck a Truck Grill on it...not that its bad, I just kinda like the ex grill.
Someone also stuck stock Powerstroke Truck door bages under the Excursion fender badge for some reason....going to remove them, maybe stick them on the door, maybe not.

I'm not sure about the Diablo chip, is it good? bad? ugly? I also have a hypertech tuner for it as well, any opinions on which of the two is better? Sell both and buy a custom chip?

I also plan to put a 4in. Exhaust on it and maybe an AIS intake?

Here are a few not so great pics, I'm sure I'll get more later.

I'd swap you if you lived close.

Because for some reason, Ford decided not to identify the engines in the Excursions like they did for the F series trucks.

I dunno why they left the Powerstroke emblems off, but getting some for my Ex has always been on the back burner. I've just never gotten around to it.

I took a look at your post and saw where URL coding was placed between the IMG coding, so the URL coding trumped the IMG coding and they showed as links instead.

I fixed it for ya.

congrats on the family expansion, and it looks like you found a gem of an excursion.

you mentioned your seats being a little torn up, if you havent found it already there are oem style replacement seat covers all over ebay. I have never bought any but they look like good quality. If my drivers seat ever goes thats what i will do

thanks guys!

as a bonus the free to me cd players I stuck in there works the CD changer in the console, so that was a good surprise.

I looked on ebay at those seat covers, not sure yet, I may talk to my buddy that owns an tint/upholstery shop and see what he can get, otherwise I'm keeping an eye out at work for a set.

I covered my seats with the GT Covers Endura product. If you want something that will last the longest I can recommend this product. They've held up to a couple of Rottweilers for over a year with no sign of wear. They'll probably even hold up to children.

A very tough product. Fit is good (except they partially cover the front seat controls) but you will need to spend a little time on the front ones to get the adjustment correct. A bit pricey but well worth the cost. Color match was very good. I thought that I wouldn't like the canvas feel but I didn't notice it after a couple of days and not even the wife complained.

Downside is that while waterproof the surface is rough enough that hair. crumbs and other debris do not easily brush off. You will need to vacuum.
