E4od to e4od swap
Hey guys.
When letting a friend (or ex friend) borrow my 91 f250 he did a neutral drop to show off and destroyed my transmission. So rather than rebuilding a old used tranny i have found another transmission. Its out of a 1986 f250 with 20,000 on the tranny. I found it for $225 but we have to drop it out of the truck.
Long story short i have 2 questions.
Going to get it what will i need when dropping it?
And
Will a e4od from an '86 f250 460 work in the spot of mine? '91 f250 460.
Sorry im new to the new truck world. Most of my knowledge is for 67-72 because of my 71.
Thanks guys!

The computer will be looking for signals from the trans and when that go missing it will assume total failure, enter "FEMM" they is "Failure Effects Management Mode"
It severely reduce the power to prevent more damage but allows you to get to somewhere safely off the road.
You will need the ECM from a truck that had the same type engine and a manual trans.
It will not be looking for the E4OD shifting so a C6 will work.
You will have to lengthen the drive line also, and get the vacuum parts and linkage from the area (what would have been the carb) installed as well
If I had an $2000 + PITA to rebuild Fragile E4OD die on me, I would go with a $500 ~ easy to rebuild and tough as nails C6 and a Gear Vendor OD unit giving me 6 forward speeds and 2 reverse speeds.

If the trucks have the same wheelbase, the drive line, if not you will have to get that lengthened.
The down shift linkage from the trans (carb/throttle body) to the engine.
Not sure about the flex plate so I'd grab that.
Set up the vacuum line.
Dip stick and tube.
Not sure about the C6 neutral safety but should be able to wire the starter through it to only work in park or neutral.
The E4OD cross member might be adapted but the trans is shorter so you might need to either relocate the cross member or just mount the C6 cross member in front of it.
The truck was designed for that cross member to add strength where it is so best not to screw with it if you don't have to.
That's all I can think of for now.
BTW The title should be E4OD to C6 Swap

Ok well thats a little much for a teen on a tight schedule and budget. What about the e4od from a 96 powerstroke? I have heard that they are different but is there a way to make it work? (Trans was rebuilt with 2500 miles on it for $300) i read that the bell housing wont bolt up but can i make mine work?
