Transmission fluid change Truck has about 82,000 on it have changed original fluid at about 42,000 done at ford pump system change decided not to do that this time fluid is still pink and smells ok ( no burning ) Should it be changed NOW or do I have a little time ? QUESTION 1

Coolant change can that be done myself and whats involved ? How much coolant and should it be a 50% coolant 50 % water ? Where do you drain from ?

How about me changing tranny fluid ? Besides fluid ( how much is needed ? ) what other parts do I need pan gasket and screen ? How hard are these jobs for a do it your self guy. I am pretty handy.Professional carpenter basic mechanics !

On my 2005 5.4 automatic SD there is a tranny drain plug which will drain the main pan (but not the torque converter and fluid in lines) which is what I prefer to do on a intermediate schedule rather than the pan removal and /or back fluch which service centers want to do.

My truck has an external xmsn filter mounted on the lower passengers side of the radiator...but be carful with that since almost everyone reports either that they broke it taking it off, or needed to remove and bench it to dismantle. Some guys have success with an impact wrench but my filter would probally blow off If I went that route due to cheap L stock hold it to frame.

On my truck there's also a radiator drain on the drivers side lower end of radiator which will drain the radiator, but not the actual engine case (in full anyway). Top resivior I drain by using an pump extractor.

I have used some articles from 1975stroppebaja and they are pretty good. Also Next time you may get better results by checking out the 5.4 engine specific forum or FAQ's if not done so already.
