Question SCT tuner and tune question.

I am going to be picking up an SCT tuner in the next week. I was wondering if the economy tune that comes with it is any good?

I have seen other's mention a Matt's tune, but can not decipher the search results to find a good link.

The other question is what are the going prices for a custom tune? Will I see an increase in fuel mileage from my stock tune? I currently get on average 15.8 MPG with the worst factory tune.

SCT doesn't have a canned ECONOMY tune.

As follows:

Trans Only
Tow 50hp
Tow 65hp
Street
Performance

Straight highway, Trans Only is the best. Next is Tow 50 hp.

Mix City/Highway Performance Tune is really nice.

Straight City driving, Tow 50 or Street.

Not sure what it is about the Tow 65, but I absolutely hate it.

Thanks for the link FBH! I sent an email to them asking for some info based off of what I have currently.

Josh thanks for the info also! What can I safely without headstuds?

Just watch the boost, although lifting the heads is possible bone stock.

IMHO the canned tunes are fine, just don't tow with the Performance tune or use the Street Tune over about 5000 pounds.

As a side point the canned tunes were written by Eric @ Innovative so it isn't like they were just hacked together as some have the habit of implying.

I really just want a MPG tune since I am driving a lot! I hope the new job allows me to get the engine bullet proofed in the next month or so!

I ran the performance tune on my 7.3 Excursion and averaged between 16 and 18 mpg.

Running the performance tune on my 6.0 Excursion, I averaged 16.2 mpg all around, but te trans was still doing some relearning. On a road trip I averaged 17.5 mpg with that tune.

From what I understand the " Street" tune on a 6.0 yields the best fuel economy as it's the middle ground tune that's a good combination of the "Peroformance" and "Tow" tunes.

Hmmm.... Never knew there was a HP difference (street and performance) between the 03/04 and the 05+ engines...

Let Matt know that you don't have studs and that
way you don't get a crazy tune.

I wonder if they don't actually have it backwards as the 03/04 have less torque than the 05+ engines.

I've always gotten my best fuel mileage with my highest HP tunes. It requires some discipline to keep your foot out of the throttle though.

I wish I could find some of the old Navistar HP numbers that were in the 200's but the torque was over 600. I always thought that was very strange but they were over the road trucks too.

From what I've seen on SCT, Superchips, Hypertech, and a few others websites, for some reason '03 and '04 trucks get more power than the later trucks.

When I used it, the performance tune did yield some good fuel economy over stock. It was lacking on the bottom and mid-range though. The SCT "street" tune has good power througout the RPMs.
