My Dent and I plus a small JD loader volunteered for clean up duty in Washington IL with Samaritans Purse. We live about 6 miles from Washington IL and didn't get hit but Washington got creamed.

I showed up at our Church at about 7:00 and there were something like 200 volunteers. Samaritans Purse did an amazing job getting it all sorted out. I along with about 60 others were assigned to field cleanup. The tornado left a wide debris field across the farm land. We went to a farmstead that was completely leveled. The only thing standing was part of the grain bins that had been filled with soybeans. Parts of the house/barn ect along with debris carried from the town itself were scattered across the fields.

First order of business was walking the fields to make piles. Fortunately it was cold and frozen so the ground was stiff. Not so good was 20+ MPH wind. It was cold. We made piles for about 2 hours then the Dent went to work. I recruited a team member to drive her with the trailer and I drove the loader. For the rest of the day we picked up piles.

The range of vehicles doing the pickup was amazing. Hay racks, dump trailers, 4 wheelers with little wagons and the dent with a trailer. The last field was very heavy. The two backhoes digging the trench for dump and burn couldn't keep up. They were digging in opposite directions to make it longer but unloading still had to wait.

The dent did great. It pulled the trailer sideboarded with plywood from the field and heaped full without complaint over plowed ground. Last pull out the trailer was heaped as high as ever and about 10 volunteers in the cab and bed. No complaints. My recently overhauled front axle got a workout. By the end of the day, the 60+ we started with were down to about 15. We had cleaned nearly 200 acres along with other volunteers. The people were great.

I'll probably go back at it Sunday PM and at least a couple days next week. I'll try to post a picture back home as the sun was setting.

That's awesome. I love hearing stories of dents being put to work. They are such an awesome vehicle.

 

Awesome is right! I'm sure the Dent did great but hats off to you Blue and White and the others who put in the time and effort to help out your community.

good on you man! my buddy grew up in one of the neighborhoods that was completely destroyed. another buddy of mine just hopped a flight to the Phillipine to help there. kudos to everyone helping people who've lost everything right before the holidays!
