MotorCraft FL-820 S Filter

MotorCraft FL-820 S Filter
Anyone using the Motorcraft FL-820 S oil filter might be interested knowing Amazon sells them for $3.69 each.
I just ordered 12 which includes free shipping. Previously I've paid about $5 each through a dealership.
I'm sure any other Motorcraft filter is also available for similar savings too---buying in quantity saves the otherwise deal-breaking shipping costs.
Now to find Castrol 5-30W High Mileage oil in the 5 quart jugs for an equally great price!

That's a lot of filters. I did buy 10 OEM Subaru filters when they were closing out the quality Tokyo Roki filters in their move to Honeywell (Fram) as their new OEM (yuk). That's when my Forester was a new car in 2008, and I still have a few of those left. Dunno what I'm gonna do when I'm out, as Subaru has a 22 lb bypass relief setting and most of the aftermarket filters are at 10-12 lbs... Maybe I'll break down and use their Honeywells
I find that I've bought a lot of oil at Advance Auto Parts when they have a 5 quart plus filter special (I buy high mileage oil for my old BMW) and because they don't have BMW filters, I've ended up with a few Ford Pure Ones in my box of filters... I like Pure Ones just fine (and the good Bosch filters, NAPA gold/WIX too).
And I still take my van to the dealer for their 1/2 hour $29.99 (maybe it's $34.99 nowadays) oil change to get some face time with the service folks and to look at new and used cars (good excuse to hang out at the dealer for a little while). They do the 5W20 Motorcraft syn blend and 820S combo. I've been running my oil changes out to 5-6k miles, so that's about 2 changes per year.
Here's hoping your van lasts long enough to use up all those filters, JWA!

FYI I just checked Advance Auto Parts and they are doing a 5 quart jug of Valvoline Max Life or Pennzoil High Mileage oil and a Pure One filter (value up to $11.99 on the filter) for $24, max of 5 combos per customer. I have not used high mileage oil in my van but do use it in my BMW as it has a seeping seal on the oil filter tower (I have a new gasket but am a bit lazy). Dunno how that works out compared to your Castrol deals.
I *think* I like Castrol but that is what I was using in my '86 GMC van when I had a timing chain/oil pump failure on the freeway that took out the whole engine in 1990, with only 42k miles on it. (The GMC dealer, about 200 miles from home, got GM to pay half the cost of a Targetmaster replacement...) So I usually don't buy Castrol on purpose. I have had great luck with Valvoline, Motorcraft, Mobil, and most other brands.

Good find J W! I always bought them at Wal-Mart for around $4.00 if I remember right. I bought the FL-500S my new truck requires on Amazon because Wal-Mart doesn't sell them. But that bugger was $7.94!
I highly recommend Amazon Prime to anyone who shops online. I think it's like $80/year, and you can get that nice cheap filter delivered via second day air for no extra charge.

[QUOYeah but this way they show up on my porch---not traveling required!
Good points George----I'd use Valvoline or Pennzoil without hesitation---good stuff! Being honest I used Castrol because at the time of purchase it was one of the few available from O'Reiliy's in the 5 quart jugs. Previously I'd been using NAPA Hi-Mileage in 1 quart bottles---hated having all those empties laying around waiting for a trip to the recycling bins.
BTW your experience with the TargetMaster motor reminds me so much of Quaker State, back in the 60's though---pure Kryptonite to most motors----or rumored so anyway!
I've used Amazon most recently for my front end rebuild---'bout $400 in Moog parts, left on my front porch with free shipping too. I try supporting my local guys but they were almost $100 more for the same parts---tough to say no to those savings.
I'll look into the Prime feature---have seen it on their pages but never paid a lot of attention---sounds like something to check out!
Thanks guys!

Well that difference PLUS considering I'd have to travel out of my way is more than enough to get ME to use Amazon!
To each their own---'nuff said!

Amazon is one of my first go-to sites when looking for a lot of things---so far its been pretty much without comparison in fulfilling many of my wants and needs. Where else can we order Moog suspension parts, a collector's edition of Show Girls, M&M Peanuts by the ton and who knows what else? Oh---an out of print Lynda Carter VHS with her first and only nude scene.............
I hate trekking into and out of more than one location for common things and there's just no way more convenient than point, click and wait for the whatever to show up. Amazon tends to have great prices, a very fair return policy---for those reasons I use them a lot.
I get using local guys for the most part and do patronize many but when its the exact same item with full support of the manufacturer for a less price and adding in the convenience factors its a win-win for me.
