There is no reason why you cant go back with a motocraft filter. I would recommend wix though.

You can use whatever filter you feel comfortable with. Wix is outstanding. as far as change interval, I would go with every 5000 miles. Some say 7500 but i dont like to push it. And oil is cheap considering.

For the price the motorcraft is a very good filter since it has a silicon anti-drainback valve in it. to get that feature with most brands requires you to buy the most expensive filter in their lineups while the motorcraft is just 3.48 at your local walmart (well at my local wallie world)..

but wix (napa and carquest are wix), mobil 1, motorcraft are all good filters just use what is easiest to get (or cheapest).

as for oil intervals with mobil 1 i see people do anywhere from 6K to 12K (they change their filter a 6 though).. all seem to do good with that oil.

I used to always use Mobil 1 Syn. after the second oil change and I never calculated a change in fuel econ. I know that syn oil is supposed to not break down as fast as semi syn oil, but my information I have been told in the past was to still stick with the factory oil change intervals. The proper way to extend oil change intervals is to have you're oil sent out and tested at certain mileage increments to see if it still has it's protection properties. Other people on FTE has done this and would be better able to give you better info on this, or you can do a search.

It is true that with a quality syn-oil, you can extend your change intervals as long as you change your filter more often. Since your truck is still under warranty I would recommend changing your oil every 5K miles and keep your receipts. Quality synthetic oil is not much more money than the semi-syn stuff and does not break down due to heat like regular dino oil does. After your warranty runs out then you can start extending your drain intervals as long as you change the filter every 5K miles. The motorcraft filter is very good for the money. I use them on my F-150 and my Mustang road-course race car and have never had a problem. I also trust Wix and NAPA. My 2cents

Just an fyi don't use fram filters, espicialy if your running high hp motors. Last weekend I had 3 people come in and needed a new oil filter asap because their fram's collapsed while they were at the track...
