Question Reinforce suspension.

Hello folks,

Question about suspension, I just got a 2002 F-150 4x4 4.6L ext cab, I am looking to put a plow on it this winter and shovel a few driveway, nothing too fancy nothing to big. Plow is a Fisher 7.5ft just to get started and see how it goes..

What i was wondering I am thinking of reinforcing my suspension to take the load of the plow. Any ideal.

Would a suspension of a F-250 work ? would would i need to make this winter go smooth.

What would I need to replace to make this go easy. I made a search for suspension nothing came up for a 2002 F-150.

Putting F250 suspension on a F150 is going to be very difficult. The F250 is a solid front axle and the F150 is IFS. If all your going to do is driveways and not beat on the front end you will be fine. Expect to eat up ball joints. That is alot of weight on the front end of these trucks. Not sure what your exp with plowing is so I apologize if I insult you. Don't leave plow up when parked and drive slow. That wieght will more than likely bottom you out to your bump stops when you hit a bump.

I plowed with a 2001 Dodge 1500 and it did just fine. I did however replace my front springs with 2500 springs. The 01 had a solid front axle also. Much better for plowing.

When I plowed I went to this site for most of my info. http://www.plowsite.com/
It is a forum for guys who plow commercially. You should be able to get good info there. There is a Ford specific area.

I know when I used my truck for plowing I took it easy on it. I didn't ram and was very careful not to hit curbs and obstructions. I used it to plow parking lots and drives for 5 years before I had to replace ball joints. Pretty sure they were the OE too. Truck had 124K on it when I replaced them. If I had to do it all again I wouldn't plow with anything lighter than a 3/4 ton and it would have a solid axle not the IFS.

I know early into the 1997-2003 body style Ford made an F250 light duty truck but I honestly couldn't tell you what type of suspension it had. I just came back to Ford after a 17 year hiatus! Love my Supercrew!

Check out that site and good luck plowing!
