replacing battery cables anyone know the lenth ??
Well truck wouldn't start at work last night. Got my meter and had someone hit the key while I checked it out with my volt meter and my battery voltage did not change when hitting the key. Sure enough battery cable corroded out. Truck never turned over slow etc no issues before this. I was very happy it happened at work where all my tools are. I crimped on battery lugs and added marine battery terminals to the battery after cutting off the corroded section of wiring. Nice clean connections for now. But within the next month or so. I won't risk it because I know I cut off the bad section of cable and the rest of the ground looked as if it was starting to corrode out.
Does anyone happen to know the length of the positive and negative cables ? I would like to just make my battery cables as I can get 4 gauge copper wire at work and install lugs. As a reference checked oriellys website and the neg is 77$ and the starter cable is 55$ . Way too much when I can make the cables. Thanks guys
Just want the length so I can go straight from making them to cleaning all the connections with my die grinder and a sanding disk and installing them

Well! Happy to say I found some 4 gauge philips welding cable/ battery cable some truck driver threw in the trash at work. Its 6 feet long and I cut off the ends internally its in pretty good shape. I have a press tool to install new lug ends too. I don't mind using the marine post and lug ends at all. Not a bad time to make my starter connections shinny and any other connections while I'm there. While I'm at it I can spray paint the starter connections and check any grounds as well. I know 4 gauge is pretty stout but I know it will do the trick! Its much cheaper to make this stuff. We do it all the time at work for semi trucks. Volvo/ freightliner will want a pretty penny for the one foot cable that goes between the frame and starter for a sure ground. You can make that ground with welding cable / battery cable and seal it from the element quite easily!
