Fuel Tank Insulators Between Straps and Tank-Tar Paper?

Hello,

I'm changing the in-tank pumps on my 5.0 EFI '85 model. There was some sort of heavy fibrous material between the straps that secure the fuel tank and tank itself. The stuff on my truck is not in good condition at all, and I'd like to replace it. It looks like some sort of tar paper...Is it?

Thank you,

Rick

I'm not sure exactly what it was.
When I replaced my rear tank I used some 'camper weatherseal' just because I had it around.
This is some gray foam adhesive gasket stuff about 2 1/2" wide.
It seems to have held up well for 5 years.

I used a couple of pieces cut from an old tire flap I had in the garage.

I think I used pieces of an old inner tube held in place with duct tape.

Wow, I've been over thinking it I guess. I was thinking that I'd want to use a material with just the right qualities; soft enough to keep the strap from chafing against the tank, but resists containing or trapping moisture that could lead to rust. With that in mind, it looks kinda like tar paper...I'll get some tar paper (it's cheap anyway)...

If you want, you can order a set from LMC, it is just strips of heavyweight rubber sheet, like HD innertube.

I used an inner tube, but tar paper I'm sure will work just as well.
