MPG with a stock 6.0

Can anyone tell me what kind of mileage I should expect to get with a stock 6.0 in an 07 F350 crew cab short bed ? or would you need much more info to determine a fair estimate? In the short time I have owned the truck I have yet to see the lieometer above 16.0mpg and I have run pretty consecutivly 15.4 to 16.4. which is as good as my 99 F150 4.2L I still have and the 05 F150 4.6L that I traded on this truck. I am thinking the mileage I am getting to be a bit low considering how easy it does it's thing but I would like some input before I start spending money to try and improve it. Thanks in advance for any help.

Do hand calculations. The computer is worthless in this case.
15~16 MPG is good and is about whet I am getting with mixed
driving. Get me on the freeway empty for a long distance and I
can see 21.5 MPG. Yes I have logs to prove that statement.

Thanks Yahiko, The 15.4 to 16.4 is using hand calculations and if that is about what you get with mixed driving then I'm probably good with that. I rarely get on a four lane, most of my driving is on back country, semi hilly terrain. The distances to towns that I frequently travel to is approx. 35 to 40 mile one way. and I have only pulled my travel trailer once from the Lake where I park it for the summer back home( a distance of about 50 miles) surprisingly enough my mileage didn't seem to change much when I pulled. If it will stay up around what I'm getting now I don't believe I'll screw with it. Thanks again for the input.

Yep, I will see 15-16 average mixed 50/50 driving.

I burned up one tank a few weeks ago running SCT canned Performance tune that was almost 100% city driving and that was high 13s.

Straight highway driving is 19+ and I have seen over 21 mpg like Yahiko.

Highway mpg is running stock strategy, I see slightly less with canned tunes or custom tunes.

Thanks Bullitt, I guess I'm in the game then, not what I expected but I can live with it, and the truck is light years ahead of the F150's I have owned in the past and the one I still own now.

The mpgs will also be dependent on your set up. 2WD or 4x4, stock tires vs oversized tires, tire pressure, ambient temps, how much idling, how much stop and go driving, short trips vs long trips, how hard you accelerate from a stop etc. Keep it under 2000 rpms, and you will do MUCH better. You still need to romp on it every once in a while if you're constantly putt putting around.

In the morning, before the motor is warmed up and the weather is cold, I get terrible mpg until it gets up to operating temp. In the heat of the summer, during the afternoon hours, my truck is pre-warmed from the hot sun and it will net me much better mpgs from start to finish.

Also don't forget your rear end axle ratio will play a big part. My 4:10 ratio is perfect for towing, but I can't go 70 and keep the rpm below the coveted 2k range

I get anywhere from 15-16 unloaded, when towing I get 9. But I could care less what it is. It is just one of those things that is what it is. A close to 9k lb truck it is pretty dang good for what it can do.

I have one hand calculation MPG I can't explain. I got 32.0 MPG
Between fill-ups. I did both and filled into the neck.
I was driving I-5 from Medford, Or to about Springfield, OR.
The only thing different that I did was I had toe/haul on while I
was driving Grants Pass so that I could keep off the brakes.
The Elevation is 1,382 ft (421 m) and Grants Pass Elevation is 960 ft (292.6 m)
The end point at Springfield,OR Elevation is 454 ft (138.4 m)
So you can see I was dropping down all the way. But while in the pass
I was climbing some times it seemed. I lost 928 ft in Elevation.
So that may explain the MPG. I have not repeated that trip this year
But when I do you can bet I will be watching it to see if it was a fluke or not.

Man there are 5 passes with 2 being 6% grades for 3 miles in that stretch of I5.
Are you sure you weren't further north? My mileage driving south of Roseburg is always about 2 mpg less then north. My typical mileage is about 19.5 on the freeway.

I can look back at the trip log and see. I was thinking it was something like 400
miles or more between fills.

I see what it takes to get the logs out of the tracking app on my phone.

The drive was heading north to home and the MPG dropped back to 21.5
from there to Tacoma.

Sean

EDIT : I drove from the Medford Fred Meyer where I filled-up to Halsey,OR at the 228 and I-5 for the fill-up where I got the 32 MPG

After looking at Mapquest and some other things I think I may of missed a fill
in the database.
That would explain the high MPG.
I really need to rerun this and see.
I have some reasons to go to Medford,Or.
So we will have to see.

Sounds good. You know, if you head down to Medford and need any parts, Riffraff is in the area.

Yep, that is what I did I forgot the fill-up in Medford,Or.
The last logged one was in Latitude: 39.156197 Longitude: -122.146324 Williams, CA 95987
then the next should of been Medford,Or
But was instead Latitude: 44.388012 Longitude: -123.056709 Halsey, OR 97348.

So next time I go down to LA I will be pushing my milage and running to near empty
at each fill. I can get about 550 miles per tank and I think I can push it till 75 to empty
and see how that goes. In the past I fill at 300 miles. But with my tank level sender
fixed and now that I know I can trust it.

I'll have to check and see what my axle ratio is, I know at 55mph my tach says 1500rpm and at 65 it goes up to around 1800 so I don't have a problem staying under the 2000 grand mark and my truck is 4wd with stock tires so I'm probably getting what I can for mileage and I can live with that. I just wanted to get some idea what the rest of you were doing and if I was in the ballpark or if I should have been doing better. It sounds like I'm ok for now.
