Question when reusing the Motorcraft DEF filler spout

I have the 2 1/2 gal jug of Motorcraft DEF and the filler spout. As stated in the instructions the last time I used the spout I rinsed it in water. I now need to put some DEF in the tank and there is still some condensation in the filler spout. Should I go ahead and used it with the condensation in it or should I wait until it is all dried out. I have tried blowing it out with compressed air and have gotten most out but there is still some.

So, make sure I understand completely, a little water in the DEF should be no problem? By a little I mean a few drops.

Next time make sure to leave the spout out and let it dry before sealing it back up into the zip lock bag.

I don't believe any condensation in the spout will harm anything... IMO

On first impression, I wouldn't think there would be a problem. If you are concerned about it tho, what about rinsing it in distilled water. At least that would be a similar solution as what the DEF is made of. Just a thought.

Or set it in the sun for about 5 minutes before you use it.

How many miles are you guys getting on a def tank? How many gallons is it? Just boughta truck and keep forgetting to get some. Only at 1200 miles so far.

The tank is 5 gal, I've only seen the less than 1/2 warning once and that was because I purposely waited for it. I just keep a 2 1/2 gal jug in the garage and fill the tank before I head out on a trip with the trailer. So far in a little over 16K I've used 3 of the 2 1/2 gal Ford jugs and still have not seen the warning.

Reminds me I need to pick up a jug before we head out for the coast next month. It really is pretty easy to just forget about the DEF as it isn't the big deal some folks want to make it.

Yep, had the DEF fluid warning come on when coming back to town with the trailer. Said I had 800 miles left in the DEF tank.

I just took mine down to around 220 MTE on the DEF tank.
Wanted to take it lower for the fun of it but had to go out of town.
I was able to put 5 GAL in the tank but just barely.
If it was winter, I wouldn’t have pushed my luck with that full of a tank.

Whatever you do, do not contaminate the DEF with water. The mixture is already 67.5% water and even a few drops of water could throw off the balance of the mixture!

I'm just messing with you. I've heard stories of people adding water to the DEF tank on Navistar trucks and getting away with it. With the mixture being mostly water, small amounts added to the mix aren't going to change much. It would be interesting to know how much the Ford system can take before it rejects it.

indeed, water is way cheaper than DEF! you try it out and let us know how it goes, haha!

I'm not looking to try it, but really the worst case here is that the tank and lines would need to be purged out and fresh DEF put back. Water certainly isn't going to damage anything that is exposed to the corrosive DEF solution all the time. I'm sure somebody knows, they just won't speak up until there is a chance to strike somebody down for making a statement like I just did!
